Last week, Ukraine and China signed an agreement in Beijing as part of China’s New Silk Road global influence and investment scheme. The Chinese government, which recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of the dominance of the Communist party, will finance the building of transport infrastructure and Ukraine will get more food export access to China.
«Ukraine can only embrace China more since both the EU and NATO have not shown much interest in Ukraine joining for now,» Li Lifan, a senior fellow at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, told the South China Morning Post.
Some analysts say by moving closer to China, Ukraine is also hoping to draw more interest from the United States.
