Lviv submitted a final application for the contest «European Youth Capital», which is annually organised by the European Youth Forum and Congress of the Council of Europe. This was reported by the press service of Lviv City Council.

«Many young people focus on what happens in Lviv and try to take interesting ideas for themselves. Lviv should be viewed as the centre of a youth movement, the city which sets the trends in the youth policy during the next period», – the State Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine stated.

With the title of European Youth Capital, Lviv aims to reveal three components of «Molo» [a part of Ukrainian word molod’ – youth]:

  • Molo is individual
  • Molo is #YouthEnvironments,
  • Molo is city

Let us recall that in the list of semi-finalists who will compete for the title of European Youth Capital, there are also such cities as Chisinau (Moldova), Ghent (Belgium) and Veszprém (Hungary).

The contest is held by the European Youth Forum in Brussels. The city winner will be announced in November.

Historical reference

The title of European Youth Capital was approved in 2009. Rotterdam became the first city winner, and the Portuguese city of Cascais currently holds the title. European Youth Capital is the annual contest among European cities, the purpose of which is the promotion of economical, social, cultural and political aspects of city development through the youth component.
