Tales and stories will sound in voices, known to the people in Lviv.

Media hub «Tvoe Misto» is launching the audio-project «Listen in Ukrainian». The first book will be «Honey and Paté – Fantastic Windmills,» by Lviv’s Ulyana Chuba, which will be read by musician and actor Misko Barbara, frontman of the cult Mertvyi Piven («Dead Rooster») rock band, which was hugely popular in Ukraine especially in the years after the 1991 independence.

«Due to the dominance of foreign language content in our informational space, we have long planned to create our own series of podcasts or audio tales with high-quality Ukrainian content,» – said the head of the «Tvoe misto» media hub Taras Yatsenko. «We talked to Lviv performers, and now, together with musician and actor Misko Barbara, we have started a series of such readings from this book by a Leopolitan, which was recognized as the best children’s book of 2020 by BBC Ukraine: «Honey and Pate – fantastic windmills.»

Throughout the series, all readings of both modern and classical literature will have their own theatrical and musical design, with narration by voices well known to the people in Lviv and beyond.

«We want this project to draw attention to the need to listen to our own audio content of high quality, because it is convenient wherever you are: on the road, at home, or on a walk,» – said Taras Yatsenko.

The idea to make modern Ukrainian audio books was supported by Misko Barbara.

«We decided to start with children’s books. I myself was interested in reading this book, although it is for children. Today, it is important to create Ukrainian content, especially for children. After all, there are not so many audiobooks in Ukrainian now, but I want to have more of them», – the musician said.

You can listen to the first series lasting 13 minutes on the Tvoemisto.tv media hub page on Facebook and on the YouTube channel.

The heroes of the Ulyana Chuba’s «Honey and Paté – Fantastic Windmills» are a rabbit, Paté («Pashtet»), and a bear, Honey («Med»). They are heartfelt friends. Pate is a skilled cook, while Honey is a grateful gourmet. On a motorcycle, friends travel the world – France, the Carpathians, the Green Peninsula... Ahead of them – a lot of adventures. The book refers the reader to many classic works of children’s literature.

The book’s Ukrainian name is Med i Pashtet – fantastychni vitrohony. It is from the Kyiv-based publishing house «A-ba-ba-ha-la-ma-ha», founded by poet Ivan Malkovych. Its unusual name comes from a phase from literary legend Ivan Franko’s short story, «Hryts’s Schooling). The protagonist, learning how to read, encounters the phrase, «A-ba-ba-ha-la-ma-ha,» meaning, «and grandma is a blabberer.»
