Olympic games will be broadcast in a fan zone in Lviv centre

It will be 220 hours of online broadcasting of competition from Tokyo. Eight athletes from the Lviv region will take part in the Olympic Games, and eight Lviv residents will also compete in the Paralympic Games.

During the entire period of the Olympic Games, a specially equipped fan zone «Lviv Olympic Space» will be functioning in the courtyard of the Lviv City Hall. This was reported by the press service of the Lviv City Council.

«Since the Olympic Games will take place without spectators this year due to the pandemic, our athletes need this energy and support from the fans. That is why it’s important to create such fan zones for people who live by sport and want to support our athletes», – said Yurii Turianskyi, head of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine in the Lviv region.

He noted that eight athletes from the Lviv region will take part in the Olympic Games, and eight Lviv residents will also compete in the Paralympic Games.

The arrangement of Lviv Olympic Space is funded by sponsors, so admission will be free.

In the fan zone itself, a stage with a screen will be installed, which will be constantly working to cover up-to-date information about the XXXII Olympic Games in Tokyo. Exclusive live broadcasts with athletes, coaches, officials of the Olympic team from Tokyo are planned as well. There will also be many activities organized by the city’s Children and Youth Sports school, and the entertainment zones of virtual reality and e-sports, climbing, an area of Japanese culture (language, origami, tea ceremony), photo exhibition #LvivOlympicHope, competitions and raffles will be arranged.

«We don’t use funds from the city budget. Lots of sponsorship funds [are used] to create this zone. Therefore, admission is free. There will be a lot of things for fun, activities, and sports competitions. For children, it will be especially useful. After that, we will have a lot of children in September who desire to do certain sports», – says the head of the City Council’s department of sports Anton Nikulin.

According to him, it will be 220 hours of online broadcasting of competitions from Tokyo.

«We have received permission from the «UA: Pershyi» («First Ukrainian») TV channel and the Olympic Committee to broadcast it officially», – Anton Nikulin added.

The fan zone will be open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, from July 23 to August 8.

Let us recall that the Olympic Games in Tokyo will be held from July 23 to August 8. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they were postponed for a year. In total, 158 Olympians in 25 sports (30 disciplines) will represent Ukraine at the XXXII Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, among them eight representatives of the Lviv region.
